Shakespeare in Cuba - for Shakespeare's 400th anniversary
The Lions part is supporting and taking part in the "Shakespeare in Cuba" project, a short festival devised and produced by Lions part member Sarah Finch in Havana in September 2016.
Three Lions are going out to Havana work on the festival - and members of the company have been hugely supportive:
- helping costuming
- directing our scenes
- teaching the music
- providing costumes and general advice
- giving practical and financial support

"Shakespeare in Cuba" began when Sarah Finch directed a musical that visited Cuba in 2009. She was then invited to teach Shakespeare at the National Drama School in Havana. This became a biennial commitment, and Sarah is also working with the Cuban Government towards setting up a Shakespeare Centre. The festival includes performances of scenes from Shakespeare plays, lectures from Professor Paul Prescott of Warwick University, and Lions part members sharing their experience of playing Shakespeare.
